After a great breakfast, we used the dinghy to bash down some of the brush along the side of the river to be able to reach the big trees. We strung our lines together to be able to reach the trees and used every one we had to double up on things. Linda paid out the lines while Gerry drove the dinghy into the trees (getting covered with spiders, broken twigs and branches). It took us 2 or 3 hours to get things organized and get the lines placed where we wanted them.
Next we cleaned up things on the fly bridge to make sure stuff didn’t get blown around everywhere and stayed dry. The dinghy was kept in a lowered position and the safety gear tied in place to allow for a quick getaway if needed. There are some cabins over at a nearby lake that local folks have invited us to move to if things got really bad.
We had good cell phone connections here and were able to access email and the internet through that to keep current on weather forecasts and let folks know that we were ok. We also had reasonable TV reception and tuned into the Mobile TV stations to hear the latest weather.
The rain started about 2:00 and the wind died down from around 25 knots to about 15 knots. The rain and wind is supposed to increase as we go through the night, so it will likely be a sleepless night. Good thing Gerry took a nap today.
If you look close you can see two lines (one white and one blue). They are attached to the bow of the boat and are tied to trees in front of us.

Linda & Gerry - Todd and I are anxiously watching you, knowing the worst of Ida is over but the rising water probably continues. Take care and know that we pray for your safety and a return to the happy parts of the adventure by this weekend. Paula Sue
Todd & Paula Sue,
Thanks for your concerns. We are safely tied up here in Dog River Marina. We understand that others between here and Demopolis could have a hard time with high water levels, fast current, and lots of debris on their way to the coast.
Regards,
Gerry & Linda
