October 31, Day 140 - Aqua Yacht Harbor to Five Fingers Anchorage, MM 414

After a leisurely breakfast, we started out. The skies were overcast, but the weather report promised improvement with sun by afternoon. We soon caught up with several other loopers, most of whom were traveling about the same speed as us (slow). We traveled 5+ hours and anchored in an area off the Natchez Trace Recreation Area called Five Fingers. There were several other boats (loopers) in the area, but we anchored in the first finger by ourselves. We did take the dinghy down and went exploring the rest of the area.

We ended up on Aloha Friday (a looper boat we had met before on Lake Michigan and again at Aqua Yacht Harbor). After happy hour we headed back to the boat. Tonight is Halloween; hopefully there will be no tricks tonight.

All the boats in the area made arrangements to be at the first lock, Whitten Lock, by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow so we could all lock through together.

Tonight we set our clocks back an hour as day light savings time is over.

Our dock at Aqua Yacht Harbor. This was a huge marina and the dock we were on was new. Very nice.

Here's Monk's Vineyard ... well part of her anyway ... you can see Gerry walking down the finger pier
The local yacht club was having a pumpkin patch race. They appear to be very serious here about their racing as there were many boats lined up to be hauled so they could get their "bottoms" cleaned before the race.

Here's a sailboat heading out for the race.

The restaurant at the marina, Cafe St. Clair. We ate there a couple of times as it had very good food.

The marina had a "boatel" for the smaller boats

After leaving the marina, we saw lots of birds .... here's an eagle perched in a tree

.... and here's 3 more
These pictures are some of the trees and shoreline we saw along the way. The Tenn-Tom is very beautiful
A couple of boats cruising with us

Runoff from the rivers enters the Tennessee-Tombigbee in many places. They have various man-made ways of slowing down the water to decrease the current. This had a sort of checker-board waterfall appearance.

Meandering down the river

More traveling companions

There are many areas like this ..... very shallow with trees that appear to almost grow right out of the water.

Monk's Vineyard at anchor in the 1st finger of the Five Finger anchorage.

More of the Five Finger area
Some of the shoreline that appears to be very eroded.
