November 13, Day 153 – In Mobile

We were in the middle of breakfast when there was a knock on the door and they asked if we were ready to be hauled. We got underway before Linda was out of her PJ’s. Didn’t want to miss the chance to get hauled out.

It took a while to get the boat out and on the hard, but the bottom looked good and only a small ding on the prop, the rudder was a little bent, and the rudder bearings were a bit loose, but that was about it. So, we are going to get all of that fixed, the bottom painted, the hull waxed, the “lock encounter scratch” fixed and spend lots of money.

Linda made some lunch after we were able to get back on the boat. Gerry cleared more stuff out of the bilge to allow the yard folks to get at the through hull that needs to be replaced. Then we went to gather the crew (us, Emotion 3 and Second Star) and headed to Best Buy to drop off Michel and Carole’s computer to get repaired – again. They had been to Best Buy in Chicago for a similar issue and here we are again. After several hours of diagnosis, it was decided we’d leave it for the night and check back in the morning. We then headed to Bellingrath Gardens. The summer season was pretty well over, so the flowers weren’t in peak form, but it was still a nice place to spend time. Since we got such a late start, it was dark when we left there.

We decided to go to the highly recommended Original Oyster House up on the Mobile Causeway for dinner. Wow, what a place. Great food, great service, and the food was incredible. Be sure to go to this place if you get to the Mobile area.

Cascading mums at the entrance to Bellingrath Gardens. By this time of year, most of the summer flowers are gone and during the months of October and November they feature mums.

There were still some roses left in the Rose Garden and during the peak of the season it has over 2,500 blooming plants representing more than 50 varieties.

Michel, Carole, Jana and Michael were almost hidden by the field of flowers

Yesterday I took a picture of bananas, today papayas

Some of the orchids growing in the Conservatory

Some of the mums bordering the Great Lawn. They were in the process of putting up the Christmas lights and on the Great Lawn they create a village scene complete with many Christmas trees. They turn on the lights the day after Thanksgiving .... so we were a little early for that, but we imagine it is very magical here at Christmas

Some mums along the border and some kind of very whispy flowers

Here is Michel proclaiming to be "King of the World"

Not sure if Gerry was trying to push the tree over, pull the tree up, or just climb the tree

The courtyard of the Belllingrath Home. We took the tour of the home, but you're not allowed to take pictures so all we can do is tell you it was quite the place.

A bridge, and it's reflection, in the Japanese Garden. With the reflection it forms a perfect circle.
