November 12, Day 152 - In Mobile

We woke early this morning to get the boat ready so it could be hauled. The marina told us it would be sometime in the morning. However, by the time it was 10:00, they still were not ready for us. We checked with the office and they told us sometime after lunch, so we used the courtesy car to go to the airport to pick up the van we had rented for the week.

The marina has an on-site West Marine, so we used the coupons we’ve accumulated over the past few months and went shopping. We got charts of the Florida Coast and some other “essential” items. Anyway, Gerry told Linda they were essential.

As afternoon wore on, we checked back with the marina office only to find out they wouldn’t be hauling us until tomorrow. One good thing is that we have no dockage fees while we’re waiting to be hauled. We decided to walk over to the marina next door (Turner’s Marine) where we just happened to find another boat we’d traveled with off and on -- Sharpie’s Dream (Pat & Diane). We chatted with Pat for a while then wandered over to the Mobile Yacht Club to check that out. While there we saw Second Star and Emotion 3 on their way in through the channel. While watching them, some other Loopers, Alex and Cindy from Tug Hill Tug showed up and we had a drink with them and shared Great Loop stories.

Later in the evening we met up with the gang on Emotion 3 and Second Star and then we all went to the yacht club for dinner. We shared “hurricane” stories and then called it a night as everyone was tired. Tomorrow we will go exploring Mobile.

Yeah !!!! We got mail delivery .... just like we'd planned (but one of the few times it's worked well)

You can just barely make out Second Star and Emotion 3 approaching the Dog River

These were two students from Auburn University that were collecting data on oyster restoration

Leaving the yacht club after dinner we saw this huge banana plant .... with bananas!!
