November 25, Day 165 – Burnt Mill Creek MM277.7 to Panama City Marina

We got the word late last night that Chuck & Jan would be at the marina around noon, so we got an early start this morning to make the 2 hour run to Panama City. It was another cloudy day in paradise.

We had an uneventful trip and arrived at the marina about 10:00, got fuel and a pumpout then docked the boat on Pier 6. Emotion III and Second Star weren’t too far behind.

We took quick showers and got the boat tidied up just before the Varney’s arrived. We needed to go by UPS to pick up some parts that we had ordered, so off we went. The stuff was there (yah!!!) We are always excited when mail/packages make it as planned. Next, it was on to have some lunch. We stopped at a place called Sharky’s Tiki Bar right on the beach and had a great lunch and visit with Chuck & Jan. It was really good to see them. On the way back to the boat, we stopped at the Sea Breeze Winery to get some Wine Slushie mix – they always get some when they are in Panama City, so we got some too (look for a report to come later on this new drink). Then we stopped to get a few items at the Publix for the Thanksgiving get together tomorrow. We got back to the boat and said our goodbyes.

Carl & Greg Vernon (AGLCA Harbor Hosts for Panama City & the sponsors of the Thanksgiving Dinner) dropped by and gave us more details on the dinner for tomorrow. They are terrific folks and we are looking forward to seeing the other loopers tomorrow at Thanksgiving dinner.

We were invited to join Michel and Carole for “appetizers” this evening, but it turned out to be a full dinner of catfish, rice, salad and apple pie. Michel had caught the catfish at Santa Rosa Island and they were great!

We took our full tummies home and caught up on email. Gerry called the Mullin’s and caught up on the happenings in our neighborhood. It seems that our friend Matt has received orders to deploy to Iraq. We wish him the best and pray that Torrey and the kids will be ok while he is gone.

On our short trip today we passed a public park with several little gazebo-type buildings right on the water.

Approaching Panama City Marina

Here we are at lunch. That's Gerry, Chuck and Jan at the corner table. Great views of the beach and Gulf.

A shot of the beach. Not very crowded today.

We ate at Sharky's. The food was pretty good .... but we especially enjoyed the company.

Back at the marina, the sun was just beginning to set

Snapped a picture of Michel also taking pictures of the breathtaking sunset. We were all going "WOW" as the sky burst into color.

Here's Monk's Vineyard, Emotion III and Second Star at twilight

... and a final shot of sailboat masts against the sunset
