Our destination today was St. Petersburg -- also known as St. Petes. (A little trivia here: St. Petersburg's is known as the Sunshine City and it averages 360 days of sunshine a year. We were there for one of them!!)
We went first to the Salvador Dali Museum. This museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of Dali’s artwork, drawings, graphics, sculptures and objects d’art. It was very interesting and fortunately each piece of art had a placard beside it explaining what the painting was about. However, since neither of us are art aficionados, even with the explanation it was often difficult to understand what the artwork was about, especially the surrealist paintings.
After the museum we went to the St. Petersburg Pier. This is a pier that extends a half mile out into the Bay. It has shops, restaurants, an aquarium and the usual rentals of boats, etc. We strolled around the shops and then had an early dinner at the Columbian Restaurant. They had very good food and exceptional sangria.
We strolled around the waterfront awhile and then headed home. By the time we got back to the boat the sun was setting (around 6:00 now) and it had cooled off. The weather forecast is calling for rain tomorrow, so we will probably do chores instead of sightseeing.
