January 11, Day 200 – In Clearwater

WOW – Our 200th day on the Loop.

We got up early this morning as Gerry needed to take the rental car back. Our weather station showed it got to 34.5 last night, so no freezing. Many places, even further south in Florida, were well below freezing this morning so I guess we were lucky.

We did a lot of chores today to get ready for our departure tomorrow. For one thing, we needed to make sure the boat started … it’s been a month and the temperatures have been low, but it started on the first try and purred like a kitten. Gerry worked on routes and charted our travels for the next few weeks (subject to weather).

Linda tried to duplicate the Green Chile Pork Soup recipe that Jana had given her. Not sure it ended up the same, but it was good. Put some in the freezer for quick meals later on. The weather was not bad today if you were in the sun and out of the wind. On the flybridge the temp registered in the mid-70’s. Of course, that’s not the real temperature, but tomorrow underway with everything enclosed it should be quite comfortable.

Linda had cabin fever, so went for a walk on the beach. At the marina, a lot of people were out and about and several were sitting on the benches in the sun. Walked to the other dock at the marina and visited with another looper boat (Sales & Nails) that we had previously met at Aqua Yacht Harbor. They and the other 2 Looper boats that are here are leaving on Wednesday, but we are committed to leave tomorrow, so guess we’ll start out on our own. We hope to meet up with Second Star within the next couple of days.

Since this was our last night in Clearwater, decided to eat out one last time at the local “Frenchy’s”. Frenchy’s is a small chain in this area and they have several restaurants in Clearwater along the line of a Margaritaville. There specialty is grouper served several different ways. However, tonight Linda decided on the red snapper and Gerry had a burger. Both were good. It was a chilly walk back to the boat, but the forecast tomorrow shows improving conditions. We plan to leave mid-morning.

Looking down the walkway at the marina. On the left you can see lots of small booths. These are the ticket counters for all the charter fishing boats and tour boats. They were working hard to get business today.

A couple of the big charter fishing boats. A couple of them finally went out today ... the first time in several days.

The marina complex -- post office, barber shop, restaurant, antiques, nautical shop, clothing and more. A lot of conveniences just steps from the boat.

This building has been in many of the pictures I've taken from the boat (bird pictures, sunset pictures, etc). It is the Hyatt Clearwater Beach Resort. They have been working on it for several years, but it's still not finished. The recession has slowed it down a bit.

There were many people sitting in the sun on the benches lining the marina complex -- most of then older (well at least our age or older).
