January 24 Day 213 – In Fort Myers

Today was a day of chores. However, first on the agenda was a good breakfast so we’d have enough energy to do the chores. We walked up to the First Watch Café and then stopped at the Publix for a couple of items.

Back at the boat Gerry worked on his project (replacing the macerator pump with a new one) and Linda worked on her project (scrubbing down the boat). Each took several hours. When they were done we cleaned up and relaxed a bit. Linda read and watched football while Gerry tried practicing with his casting net. During his practice casts he ended up catching a fish. Problem was it was a catfish and he had a heck of a time getting it out of the net.

About that time he noticed something was missing !!!!! We’d had the bikes sitting on the dock. Unfortunately, it was very windy today and we had some strong gusts that shook the docks quite a bit. The bikes were locked to each other, but not to anything else. Well, guess you can figure out what happened ….. yep, bikes over the dock and into the water. Took both of us a while to actually find them (we were in about 12 feet of water). Once we figured out where they were, Gerry used his casting net to snag them and pulled them up and the two of us were able to get them back on the dock. The bikes themselves are probably okay ….. but not the motors. We’ll need to sort that out later.

Around 7:00 we met up with Michael and Jana and walked downtown for dinner. Ended up eating Italian food at La Trattoria. It was very good. Back at the boat we watched a little more football and then off to bed.

Here's Gerry and his fish in the casting net. Problem was that since it was a catfish, it was harder to get out than it was to "accidentially" catch it.

I've enjoyd following your blog lately. We are in the planning stages of a Great Loop trip. I was wondering what you use for TV reception, if satilite how much did the set up cost.

Thanks for the info. We are looking at a Monk 36 also. Haven't bought it yet...still checking it out. I will keep you in mind if we have any other questions. Have a great time.

Susie,

Drop us a note at getzold@aol.com and we will answer any questions you might have about the Monk.

We have found it to be the best boat for us to do the Loop with. It is not a boat for everyone, but we love it.
