We walked over to Smitty’s Family Restaurant and grabbed a quick breakfast, then went to the No Frills grocery store and picked up some more soda – we are starting to go through that pretty quickly lately – must be warming up.
This was a pretty hetic day of locking – 9 in all including the Peterborough Lift Lock – a new day’s record for us.
Once we got through Young’s Point and into the Hell’s Gate region, the scenery changed drastically. Lots of rocks and islands with a real variety of cottages. Linda took lots of pictures, so you will see them below. It is really pretty up here. We picked up a real estate guide and found that folks are really proud of the dirt up here. But, there are a lot of properties on the market, so maybe prices will come down in the near future. We wouldn’t mind having a summer place up here – lots of crystal clear fresh water lakes and if the fish finder is any indicator, fishing should be pretty good as well.
We made pretty good time even with all the locks, but we were ready to stop at Burleigh Falls – we arrived there about 3:45 and tied up to the wall.
We even have wifi, so we can update the blog again. Gerry also sent an email to the place where we looked at the eBikes yesterday. We asked him if he would take a trade on our bikes. He had indicated that he would deliver them anywhere between Peterborough and Toronto, so we might take advantage of his offer. Linda has yet to be convinced, but she didn’t take a test ride like Gerry did. He thinks that they are so much better riding than our folding bikes, quieter, lighter, etc., they would be worth the price. Stay tuned.
We are having left over beef stroganoff for dinner tonight. Have to get the fridge cleaned out. Might do a little fishing and watch a movie tonight. We have another long day ahead of us tomorrow.

Getting ready to leave Lakefield Lock
We had just entered the area known as the Kawarthas. There are lots of cottages, camp grounds, houseboats, etc. We started to see lots of boat traffic in this area.

As we were leaving Nassau Mills Lock we could hear bagpipes. Tried to capture a little bit of the music with this clip.
