Today started a bit early for Steve and Gerry who got up to close the flybridge enclosure when it started to rain about 4:00 AM. It rained pretty hard and soaked some of the charts and cruise guides. (Fortunately, everything seemed to dry out okay.) They went back to bed and finally got moving again around 8:30.
We had a great breakfast of empanada’s (thanks Karen M.) and headed for Midland around 10:30. It rained on and off for the first part of the trip and then cleared up for an uneventful run to Bayport Marina at Midland. We arrived at 2:00 and checked in at the office.
After showers and a picker-upper, we took advantage of their offer to take us into town and had a great dinner at the Cellarman’s Ale House – we can highly recommend this as a great value with a terrific menu. The service was great as well with one of the first waitresses that had an answer to Steve’s sense of humor. (Steve disagreed with the great waitress part, but she definitely gave him a run for his money).
Then it started to rain “Hard”! The waitress called us a cab and $6 later we were back at the boat. The sun came back out about 30 minutes later and Steve, Karen, and Linda went out for a walk while Gerry iced his ankle and worked on the journal.
Karen had bought some pastries from the local bakery for breakfast. However, the fact that they were sitting on the counter was too much to resist and we all shared the goodies along with cold glasses of milk. After that, it was off to bed.
Approaching the town of Midland -- The lighthouse looking thingys are actually range markers.
Closer to the town you could see a mural of Champlain painted on the wall.
The town had 30+ murals painted on various buildings. This lighthouse actually had a real light in the tower. Below are a few more of the murals thoughout the town.
