August 18, Day 66 - South Bay Cove Marina to Wreck Island

It was sprinkling again when we got up this morning and there were some pretty dark clouds out there. Looked like the storms we were expecting yesterday would be here today. Oh well, we still plan to head out for Frying Pan as we have to get our dinner at Henry’s.

Karen, Steve and Linda went for a little walk to check out the local cottages. Found some cute ones, but also found mosquitoes. By the time we finished we had swarms of them circling us.

We departed the marina at 11:00 and headed for Frying Pan Island. Underway, Linda fixed empanadas for everyone. Gerry turned the captaining duties over to Steve who did a fine job. It rained for awhile, but as we approached Henry’s Fish House, the sun came out and it warmed up.

We all had pickerel and fries with all the trimmings and finished up with their world famous butter tarts with a side of blueberry pie alamode. We also got some “to go” butter tarts. (It should be noted that we all shared one piece of blueberry pie and one butter tart at the restaurant and got 4 “to-go” tarts.)

After stuffing ourselves with pickerel, we headed for Wreck Island. We found a nice area and dropped the anchor. Steve scrubbed the waterline and Gerry used the Brownie Hooka to check out the anchor (we were in 20-30 feet of water) and scrub a few barnacles off the running gear. We took the dinghy ashore and did a little exploring. We took the Wreck Island Trail and saw the unique geology that is part of the intricate patterns of rock outcrops and shoals in the Massasauga Provincial Park.

Back on the boat we enjoyed the beautiful sunset with the sound of loons flying overhead. As usual, Gerry was the first one to bed, but we all soon followed.

Scenes on the way to Wreck Island

This is very typical of what we saw. Lots of rocks with houses on them. Liked the lawn chairs perched on the rock. What a view they have.
