March 9, Day 257 – Key Largo to Key Biscayne

We raised the anchor and were underway by 9:15 this morning. We had a fairly long run, plus we stopped to top off with diesel, get fuel for the dinghy motor and top off the water tank. We wanted all the tanks full before crossing for the Bahamas. We had a pretty easy run, but it wasn’t as sunny as yesterday so the water color wasn’t as vivid. It was cleaner however. We were in about 10+ feet of water all day and could always see the bottom.

We have been checking the weather constantly for the past few days and it looks promising for a crossing tomorrow to the Bahamas. We’ll get up early in the morning and make a final decision.

If we are able to cross tomorrow, there probably won't be any blog updates for awhile. Internet access will be somewhat limited. However, you can always check our "Spot Tracker" to see where we are. The link to spot is found on our homepage.

We filled up all tanks before crossing under this bridge. The diesel price was quite high. Fortunately we didn't need much as we hadn't gone far since filling the tank at Fort Myers Beach.
We met this Great Harbor N37 coming through the pass. If we should ever decide to become permanent "liveaboards" this is the boat we want. It is huge inside and very seaworthy.

We are back in the land of very nice houses. Here are a couple.

... and here's another with a nice bit of land on the point. It is one of the few that had any amount of property with it. The other houses, while also huge, don't have any yards. You can really see that when you look at Google Earth (while checking out our spot location)

This is No Name Harbor -- a very nice and well protected anchorage. We went in to check it out, but decided not to stay here. It is a state park and costs $20/night to anchor. We went a bit farther up right outside a place called Hurricane Hole.

Here is Second Star in the anchorage at twilight

.... and here is a shot of the Miami skyline at sunset (as seen from our anchorage)
