March 23, Day 271 – Fort Lauderdale to Lake Worth

We were up early this morning to prepare the boat for departure. After being in a marina for over a week it takes a bit of time to get ready to go. However, by 9:00 we were releasing docklines and heading out of the slip. To avoid all the bridges and heavy traffic on the Intercoastal we elected to go out the Everglades Inlet to the ocean and then up the coast to the Palm Beach area.

There was a little more wind than the weather forecast predicted, but the seas were only 1-2 feet with an occasional 2 foot swell so, overall, not too bad. Gerry did a little fishing and even caught a couple, but let them go.

We arrived at the inlet around 4:30 and made our way up the Intercoastal to the turn off to Lake Worth, which was our anchorage for the night. Once settled in we relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. Gerry grilled dinner, we watched a little TV and then off to bed.

Leaving the marina at Fort Lauderdale. It was great to get back on the water.

We passed a hugh yacht. Notice the "dinghy" in the "garage" on the left.

Heading out the inlet. Quite a variety of boats -- all the way from a big cruise ship to a rubber dinghy.

Entering the Atlantic Ocean. Here's a shot of the beach as we went out. All the beach chairs still empty as it was early in the morning.

A shot of Fort Lauderdale from the ocean. The area you see is next to the marina we stayed at.

Now .... if you traveled this way about 60 miles, you'd be at West End, Bahamas. (We didn't)

Gerry did a little fishing while underway today.

Entering the Lake Worth Inlet

We passed under this bridge and then into Lake Worth

A shot of the anchorage looking west (that's Second Star you can see)

... and the view looking east -- some very nice homes
