March 14, Day 262 – In Fort Lauderdale

We did a little exploring around Fort Lauderdale today. We started out late morning for an arts and crafts festival at Lauderdale By The Sea. We drove north up A1A which was not too crowded yet. Several streets had been blocked off and filled with booths. There were a lot of nice things, but we resisted the temptation to buy anything. We also explored the shops and beach before heading out for our next destination. We went for pizza at a place that had great recommendations, but were a little disappointed. It was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special.

Next was a visit to the local Sams … which proved to be a lot farther than we thought. We picked up a few bulk items and some wine. Next we ended up along the New River and the Riverwalk section and the shops and restaurants of Las Olas. This is a little more upscale than the beach area we walked yesterday. We browsed through all the shops along the main street and stopped at an outdoor café for a drink. By then, it was early evening so we called it a day and headed back to the boat.

A shot of Monk's Vineyard in the marina. We look pretty small compared to the big boats around us.

This is the bridge next to the marina .. the Las Olas Boulevard Bridge

This is the New River that runs through the heart of Fort Lauderdale. A very busy river and pretty tricky to navigate with lots of blind corners and close quarters.
