March 22, Day 270 – In Fort Lauderdale

It rained during the night and when we woke up it was very overcast with a bit of drizzle. It rained off and on most of the morning. Around noon we all decided to take the bus and go back to the Publix/Total Wine/Ace Hardware shopping center. Gerry got a haircut, we picked up some fresh produce at Publix, got some more sodastream bottles at ACE and, of course, more wine at Total Wine. They we went for a late lunch at 5 Guys. Great burgers and fries.

Back at the boat we did a few chores to ready ourselves for our departure tomorrow. Probably the biggest thing we did was put away the Bahamas charts and guidebooks. (Now, we’ll probably get some good crossing days!!!) We’ve decided it’s too late in the season for our Bahamas trip. When we go, we want to go to the Exeumas, Eleuthera and the Abacos. Not enough time now before hurricane season.

Happy hour was hosted by Mike and Kay aboard Lowe Key. These are friends that Mike and Jana met through MTOA (Marine Trawler Owners Association) and the Kadey Krogen Association. They had spent the winter in Key West and were on their way back to Cambridge, Maryland. We’ll probably look them up when we get back to the Chesapeake.

Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be great. We plan on heading out around 9:00.
