October 4, Day 113 - Kaskaskia Lock to Little Diversion Canal

We had an early start today to make a 69 mile run. It started out cold and sunny but as soon as we got into the Mississippi, the fog rolled in. We were soon clear of the fog, but unfortunately it came back again. We finally cleared the fog for good, but clouds rolled in and stayed for the rest of the day. It was cold and dreary for the whole trip.

Our planned anchorage for the night was Little Diversion Channel. We needed to go past the entrance to the canal by about a hundred yards and then head back up stream to be able to make sure we had the room to make the cut into the channel. There was a 5 knot current pushing us down and into the bank, but we were able to power into the channel, but it was an exciting maneuver.

We pulled into the channel just in back of Emerald Lady with plenty of room for the rest of the fleet to come into the channel and anchor.

After a long day, we passed on cocktail hour but listened to football games and then watched a movie. After that is was off to bed. Linda still isn’t 100% and she needs her rest. We have a short run tomorrow and another long one on Tuesday.

Oh Oh ..... fog up ahead ! ! !

It cleared for awhile and then we encountered more fog

It was downright chilly this morning. Hey, I thought we were heading SOUTH. Where's that warm weather.

Even Gerry was bundled up ... note the gloves.

Approaching the Cape Girardeau Bridge

... and look, they have coke for 3 cents and 5 cents. We could sure use some right now to relieve our fatigue. We'll opt for the bigger 5 cent portion !!

Here's Emerald Lady at our anchorage in Little Diversion Channel. It was a very nice anchorage. Not the most picturesque, but very quiet and plenty of room for several boats. There were 7 of us here.
