October 10, Day 119 - In Grand River, KY

We awoke to cloudy skies, but no rain. We had a quick breakfast and did a few chores on the boat and then went into town to check out the Hunter’s Moon Festival. The town’s normal population is 485 (according to a local we talked to), but probably grows to several thousand during the festival.

The festival was definitely a slice of small town Americana ….. lots of crafts, food and entertainment. We wondered through all the tents, but didn’t find anything we had to have; however, it was interesting to look at everything that was for sale -- definitely many regional items. We found plenty to eat though. Gerry had a frito chili pie and a Bubba Burger and Linda had the ribs platter.

There was a parade scheduled for 2:00, but we left prior to that as we had to drive to Paducah to pick up our friends Jay and Nanci. As luck would have it, we ended up with the crappy van we had the day before. Once again, in spite of all the funny noises, it got us there and back. Back at the boat our company got settled in and then we caught up on all the latest news as it had been over a year since we had seen each other.

We went out for a quick dinner and then back to the boat and to bed early. Jay and Nanci had been up since 3:00 a.m., so they were ready to call it a night.

This is one of the boat's at the marina doing the Greal Loop .... Pearl .... it is a couple and their 2 teenage sons from New Zealand. Quite the adventure for them.

Gerry being silly (quite the fashion statement with his fleece jacket, sandals and socks)

A sailboat scuplture on the grounds of Patti's

Another use for an old boot

Grounds at the Settlement

More of Patti's Settlement. Before the town became Grand Rivers, it was known as Patti's.

The water wheel

Here we are at the Hunter's Moon Festival and this is Gerry's Frito Pie.

This is one time I wasn't tempted by any of the general merchandise.

This guy was selling all different flavors of cider

Here's the food tents. A very popular place

..... and here's a sign for one of the specialty items they were selling. Yumm ..... deep fried twinkies. Not sure why the price on the deep fried cupcakes had been reduced from $4 to $2. We did NOT try these.

Here's the parade route. Golf carts are very popular in this town and there must have been over 100 carts lining the street full of people waiting to watch the parade.

A picture of Jay and Gerry and our classy courtesy van.
