October 18, Day 127 - In Florence, AL

We slept in this morning …. almost until 9:00. That certainly doesn’t happen often, but it sure felt good. We had a leisurely breakfast and then checked e-mails, voice-mails etc. We found out that Bill and Ruth would not be visiting today afterall. Instead, they will drop by during the Looper Rendezvous at Joe Wheeler Park.

We were doing a few chores when Ralph and Anne came by and asked if we wanted to go into town with them. We joined them and did a little provisioning at Wal-Mart. It’s funny, we’re not really Wal-Mart shoppers. When living in the house, we would avoid Wal-Mart at all cost, but since being on the Loop, that appears to be the most popular place to shop because they seem to have everything you need. Amazing what “not having a car at your disposal” and “convenience of everything under one roof” does to change your shopping habits.

We used slingbox on the computer to watch our son’s TV at home and watched the Ravens lose to the Vikings (bummer). Today the weather was still cool, but we had sunny skies !!!! The first time in days. To celebrate we went for a long walk along the river. After our walk we fixed dinner aboard with some of the provisions we had just bought (yummy and nothing fried).

Several of the loopers were going to the haunted house tonight, but we declined and instead, called it an early night and off to bed.

Some Looper boats in the marina. At the far left is Harmonie II, then two boats down is Sterling Lady and then two more boats down is Monk's Vineyard.

This is some kind of tower at the entrance to the marina .... not sure of its purpose, except at night when it is lit up it looks somewhat like a spaceship landing (this description provided by Nanci who just visited).

The Pickwick Belle and the bridge right outside the marina

The river on a sunny day

... and the teepees on a sunny day

This is a shot of Gerry inside the Teepee. The bottom is covered with straw and you can rent one for the night for $14 ..... no thanks.
