October 15, Day 124 - Iuka, MS to Florence, AL

We departed for Florence around 9:30 after a delicious breakfast of empanadas (Note to Karen: they are all gone now – need to resupply). Today was a shorter trip, but we ran into a lot of current and several fishing boats which slowed us down. It was cloudy, but never did rain.

We arrived in Florence around 3:00 p.m. Sterling from Sterling Lady was there to meet us on the dock and help us tie up. We had not seen them since departing Waterford, NY the end of June.

We met Sterling and Judy for happy hour at the Florence Marina Restaurant. Unfortunately the restaurant will be closing for good this Saturday night, and they have not provisioned lately. They had run out of a few things, but in the case of liquor or mixer, they let you bring in your own. We had appetizers and then also ended up having dinner. One attraction at the restaurant is a catfish pool which is a hole in the bottom of the floor leading directly to the water underneath. There are many catfish, the largest of which is named George. He is about 5 feet long with a HUGE mouth. The evening was fun and the waitress, who was really chatty and full of stories, was aimin’ to please.

Departing Grand Harbor Marina .... note all the gliders on the dock

TVA coal-generated power plant

Teepee along the water's edge

More teepees

McFarland Park ..... this park is adjacent to the marina ..... a great place to walk if only the weather were warmer.
