July 5, Day 22 - Cole Bay to Vergennes

We woke up to cool breezes and a sunny day-- Felt pretty good. The weather was calling for high winds (20-30 mph) on the lake in the afternoon, so we left about 9:00 and headed to Vergennes – one of those “Can’t Miss” places on the Loop. It was a slow 7.5 mile jaunt, but interesting trip up the Otter River. We tied up at the free dock, just below the three falls that provide power to the area. The current created a bit of a challenge, but we make it in ok. We are the only boat at the dock. Either the weather or the economy (or both) are keeping boaters away this holiday weekend.

We have free electricity and water along with the dockage, so we are happy. No cell phone coverage, but we are getting free wifi from someplace.

We walked into town – a nice climb up a significant hill. Found the place that our friends from Sterling Lady recommended (the Antidote). There is no sign outside and a really “down in the basement” sort of entry where you finally see a sign, but turns out to be a really neat place with great food. We had a great lunch and will go back later this evening for dinner (menu looked very interesting).

We connected to the electrical (15 amp only) and the water. The 15 amp hook up wasn’t enough to run the washer and dryer, so we started the gen set to take care of that. Linda is multi-tasking, doing laundry and walking at the same time. I am trying to update the blog on this very unreliable connection and watching the washer doing its thing while she is out sweating.

We went back to the Antidote and had a good dinner, then went for a walk down to the falls and back to the boat. Had a connection for a couple of minutes, so answered a few emails, but didn’t have enough time to get the blog updated.

It had been a full day with too much exercise (in Gerry's opinion) so it was off to bed. We will leave for Shelburne in the morning.
