April 14, Day 293– In St. Augustine

Today was another full day at the rendezvous. We had a general meeting in the morning where we learned about all the benefits of being a MTOA member. After the morning meeting, the guys took advantage of the transportation offered to attendees and went to West Marine (Gerry needed to buy a new antenna to go with the new Standard Horizon AIS/DSC radio that will be arriving Thursday). They also needed to get fishing licenses. Yup, you need 2 different licenses in Florida: one for saltwater – which they already have – and one for fresh water which they need to fish on the St. Johns.

In the afternoon the women attended the book discussion group which was on the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The discussion leaders had also made the potato peel pie for all to sample. Interesting flavor – the crust was made of potato peels and the filling was mashed potatoes mixed with beets. I don't think it's something I'll be making anytime soon.

In the evening we attended the pajama party social hour and dinner. Attendees dressed in pajamas, many with a turtle theme. It was great fun.

When we left the party we decided to play miniature golf on the course right next to the marina. The rendezvous had offered discount tickets and playing golf in our pj’s seemed like a different thing to do. Gerry got a par and Linda got 12 over par. Oh well, we had fun. By the time we made it back to the boat it was quite late so we called it a night. One advantage of wearing pajamas to a party is that you don't need to change clothes when you get home -- you can just go to bed!

Gerry and Jana all decked out in their latest "eveningwear". Notice Gerry has his stuffed turtle with him.

The cocktail hour was held on the rooftop terrace. Here's a shot taken of the boats in the marina. Can you find Monk's Vineyard?

Here's a couple in matching pj's
Isn't she lovely -- but I think she forgot to shave her legs.

Mega turtles. She was really into the spirit of the event.

Time for bed. Let's hope he goes right to sleep. (wonder what was in that bottle)

A shot of Gerry golfing in his pj's. He shot par.
