April 11, Day 290 – In St. Augustine

We spent a leisurely morning and then made plans for a “road trip”. Michael and Jana wanted to check out more storage facilities so we took a trip to Fernandina. Along the way we stopped at Sunny’s BBQ for lunch. Very good food, especially for the price. We checked out a couple of facilities and then made our way to the historic part of Fernandina. We stopped at the waterfront (where we will probably dock as we make our way north) and then walked through the town. We ended up buying a couple of stuffed turtles. Why??? Because the logo for the MTOA is the turtle. We hung it on our bow to identify ourselves as MTOA members as we do not have our official MTOA burgie yet.

We took the ferry back from Amelia Island across the St. John’s River and then followed the ocean highway along Jacksonville Beach. It was a very nice drive.

Back at the boat we participated in an impromptu dock party involving liquid refreshments and pizza. We got to meet a lot of MTOA members as most boats have now arrived for the rendezvous. A few of the MTOA members are also Loopers but, for the most part, it was all new people that we met. Our brains are kind of on overload trying to remember names. At the actual rendezvous everyone will be wearing nametags, but for now we have to rely on our memory.

While we were out and about today, Gerry purchased alarms for the doors and new stereo speakers so he spent the rest of the evening puttering with that stuff. We watched a little TV and then off to bed.

Arriving at the Tiger Point Marina. This is just a little south of the Georgia border.

There were several pelicans posing on the pilings

.... and still more pelicans on the roof when we arrived at Fernandina

A shot looking up the main street in Fernandina. It was a very quaint town with lots of shops and restaurants.

Ahoy Matey. There were lots of stores with pirate stuff in the town, along with this bigger-than-life statue.

Here's Gerry on the bow of the ferry. He always needs to check out things whenever we're on the water.

A shot of our Looper burgie and a turtle (logo of the MOTA). We'll probably get a MOTA burgie once the rendevous starts.
