February 2, Day 222 – Goodland to Panther Key

We spent a leisurely morning doing a few chores and getting ready for our afternoon departure. We figured the tides would be high enough for us to leave around 2:00.

After a quick lunch we pulled the anchor and headed out. We had no problems making our way out into the Gulf. We had a short, pleasant ride with smooth seas. Gerry tried fishing and Linda helmed while trying to get a few good shots of dolphins. We had several sightings, but they were pretty elusive today.

We made our way along the shoreline of Panther Key and anchored outside of the cut between Panther and some mangroves. We took the dinghy down and did a bit of exploring, ending up on the beach at Panther Key. Gerry tried a little fishing and Linda walked the beach and did some shelling. When we started out in the dinghy the skies were threatening and it looked like it would rain any minute. However, by the time we got to the beach, the skies had cleared and it was sunny. Weather seems to change rapidly here. Just before sunset we headed back to the boat. Ended up on Second Star to watch the sunset and enjoy a nice glass of wine. As darkness (and the mosquitoes) came, we headed back to our boat. Yup, we’re now in the part of Florida that is notorious for mosquitoes.
