February 14, Day 234 - In Marathon

Happy Valentine’s Day!

After breakfast this morning we, along with the crew on Second Star, borrowed a resident’s car and headed off to do a bit of provisioning. While we will probably make another trip for groceries before heading for the Bahamas, we did some major shopping today. So much, in fact, that we had to make 2 trips from the store back to the boat. The 4 of us plus our purchases wouldn’t fit. Gerry and Michael also had to make their purchases for this evening’s Valentine Day Dinner.

Back at the boat, Linda spent the rest of the afternoon defrosting the fridge and stowing all of our purchases. There is still a little room left for some more canned goods. Not really knowing what to expect in the Bahamas as far as fresh food (we’ve heard varied reports from other cruisers who have been there), we’ll fill up any extra space with soups, canned meats, beans, rice, etc. Of course, there is always the slim chance that Gerry will catch enough fish for us to live on!

At 5:00 we took an appetizer and our BYOB down to the club house. The men are doing all the cooking/cleaning for tonight’s dinner. It was a very nice evening and the food was outstanding. We had roast pork, potatoes, asparagus, fruit salad, applesauce, rye bread and, for dessert, ice cream and cake. We played music from the 50’s and 60’s and people shared stories, mostly dealing with boating experiences. Around 9:00 we called it a night and headed back to the boat. Overall a very productive and enjoyable day … and the wind had calmed down considerably.

One of the men brought roses for all the women and the men presented them to the women. Here's Michael and Jana

... and us. Gerry held his in his teeth and presented it to Linda. Unfortunately, you can't see the rose from this angle.
