February 16, Day 236 - In Marathon

Today was kind of a lazy day. The weather was cool and breezy and Gerry didn’t feel well, so we just hung out on the boat. Linda did a bit of cooking and Gerry did a bit of snoozing.

Around mid-afternoon we decided to go for a walk. We ended up at the Marathon City Marina at Boot Key Harbor. It is a huge place with well over 200 mooring balls. Several loopers we know are staying there. It was a very busy place with lots of people coming and going. The dinghy docks were packed with boats and the bike racks were packed with ….. well …. bikes. We decided we like it much better where we’re at …. small and quiet.

We went to the tiki hut for happy hour, but it was just too cold, so we ended up on Second Star. Back at the boat we had the pork chili Linda had made earlier in the day, watched a little TV and then off to bed.

This is the mooring field at the Marathon City Marina. With well over 200 moorings it is one of the largest mooring fields in the country.

This is one of the dinghy docks. It serves as a sort of "parking lot" for the people living aboard their boats in the mooring fields. While I didn't take a picture of the bike racks, they were just as crowded. Your dinghy and bikes become your mode of transportation when staying on a mooring ball.
