June 7, Day 347 –St. Mary’s to Solomons Island

We woke this morning to a very quiet and cool morning with temps in the low 60’s. We had a quick breakfast and were underway just before 8:00. As we headed out of the St. Mary’s River the water was flat and the sun was shining. However, by the time we reached the Bay it had clouded up and winds were out of the north around 20-25 knots. Today the winds/waves were on our nose and the ride was more comfortable than yesterday. Gerry tried fishing for awhile, but without any luck, so he pulled in his lines.

We entered the mouth of the Patuxent River around 12:30 and were anchored in Back Creek by 1:00. This was a very convenient location as the marina across from us had a dinghy dock you could use for $2 and many of the stores/shops/restaurants were within walking distance. We lowered the dinghy and picked up Michel and Carole to do some provisioning at the local grocery, liquor and West Marine stores.

Later in the evening we joined Michel and Carole for happy hour aboard Emotion III followed by a dinghy ride all around the harbor. In addition to many marinas, there are a number of restaurants and shops at the water’s edge. After exploring the harbor, we tied up at the dinghy dock and walked to a local restaurant for dinner. We had both great food and great company. Then it was back to the boat where Gerry worked on our WiFi connectivity, Linda worked on blogging plus a few other chores, and then we called it a night.

We headed out with flat seas and partly sunny skies -- the flat seas part soon changed.

We went by Point No Point Lighthouse

Many sailboats were coming out as we were entering the Patuxent River

Approaching Solomons Island

Entering the main harbor area of Solomons Island. There are around 9 marinas in the area.

We passed by a very different and very colorful sailboat

At the restaurant -- we finally decided on Chinese food and I think we had enough leftovers for 2 or 3 more meals
