December 3, Day 173 – In Port St. Joe

We checked all the weather forecasts this morning and decided to stay in Port St. Joe today. The weather for the next week seems quite unsettled, so we are doubtful about being able to make our crossing to Tarpon Springs in the next few days. In the meantime, we decided to spend another day here. We worked on a few chores, took walks, did a little shopping and showed off our boat to another couple that is considering a Monk.

Gerry bought a rack for his fishing rods and fiddled with mounting that later in the day. Around 5:00 we decided it was time for happy hour so we headed to the marina café with Michael and Jana from Second Star for their “2 for 1” specials. We had a couple of drinks, fresh oysters and jambalaya. They were pretty good. This part of the Florida coast is known for their oysters. They were huge and very good.

We have decided that if the weather is reasonable, we’ll head for Apalachicola tomorrow and wait it out there until we are able to cross the Gulf. We have an appointment with a boat dealer to look at “smaller” boats there ….. the possible next phase of our boating …. A smaller boat that we can trailer and take to the places we really liked on the loop and to the lakes in the west.
