We departed Frankfort at around 8:30. Once again, we had pretty flat seas. However, it was not as sunny as the previous 2 days and there were even a few black clouds on the horizon. However, as the day wore on, the clouds disappeared and it was once again a beautiful day.
We arrived at the Ludington Municipal Marina at 2:30 and got a slip for the next 2 nights. The guys then spent the next hour or two trying to secure a fishing charter for tomorrow morning. Linda and Carole took a long walk out to the breakwater and beach. Unfortunately, no pictures of the beach area as Linda’s camera still does not work (think it is history and we’ll either have to get by with one camera or buy another smaller one).
Upon returning we met the guys wandering the dock. They had almost lined up a fishing charter for tomorrow and were on their way to get a license. We walked into town with them and picked up a few provisions in the process.
Back at the boat, Gerry fixed dinner on the grill, did a few chores on the boat and packed his bag for the fishing trip. They have a reservation for a 6:00 a.m. departure. Since we are sleeping in later now (the get up early for work habit is finally gone) and because it is still dark at 6:00 we had to find the alarm clock so Gerry could get up on time. After that, Linda tried to update the blog and then it was off to bed.
Departing Frankfort early in the morning -- lots of fishing boats at the entrance to the inlet
Sable lighthouse along the way
Ludington State Park
Sanddunes and beach along the shoreline
Houses along the lakefront. We realized that, with the exception of a house here and there, we have not seen a lot of houses right on Lake Michigan
Ludington North Breakwater Light
The Coast Guard Station
The S. S. Badger - a car ferry to Manitowoc, WI. It almost seemed it was coming ashore at the marina. Very imposing.
