The day started early to meet the 7:30 bridge opening on our way to Frankfort. We are making a few long runs to get down the lake while the weather is good. This was an 8+ hour day on the water – again – uneventful.
On our way down, we passed the Sleeping Bear sand dunes. Pretty big dunes. Lots of sand here on the east side of the lake because of the predominant westerly winds they have here. We are fortunate that the winds (what there are) have been light and from the east.
We are still cruising with our friends Michel and Carole on Emotion III. They arrived here about 30 minutes before we did. They have a faster boat, but they may be slowing down a bit to conserve fuel.
We anchored in the bay here – saves a few dollars on both slip fees and dinner costs. We will drop the dinghy and go for a ride. Need to find a place for Linda to go for a walk.
Gerry went over the charts again to see what we might be able to do to shorten our trip down the lake. We are supposed to have good weather through the weekend and it would be good to be off the lake before we start to get the winds again. With a few more 50 mile days, we would be much closer to Chicago in an area where marinas are about 20 miles apart, allowing us to be more flexible in our travels.
We are looking forward to entering the river system. Less concern about the weather, but more locking to do again plus all of the commercial river traffic. There always seems to be some new adventure around the corner ... but that's what makes the loop so fun!

A bit of industry on the shoreline. This is the first we've seen in quite awhile
Some of the large sanddunes (or so we thought - there were larger ones further down the lake)
