Staniel Cay, A Little Slice of Paradise

Staniel Cay is not huge, but it is oh so cute. It has a marina - Staniel Cay Yacht Club (where we got a slip for a couple of nights), 2 or 3 restaurants, 2 small grocery stores, a general store, a few novelty shops, fuel, cheaper WiFi than at Warderick Wells, and some of the least expensive water in this part of the Bahamas. It is also known for its great dive and snorkeling spots, not the least of which is Thunderball Cave (where part of the James Bond movie was filmed).

We arrived around 1:00 and, after getting settled at the dock, made our way to the yacht club restaurant where we had drinks and appetizers and watched football. Our Baltimore Ravens were playing the Kansas City Chiefs – and the Ravens won!! While Gerry was watching the end of the game, Michael, Jana and Linda walked around the island. Most things were closed as it was Sunday, but we got a feel for the town. Back at the marina we discovered happy hour had just started with 2 for 1 drinks and free appetizers which were great. We spent an hour or so hanging out at the bar, then went outside and sat on the patio and watched the sunset. We were happy people.
