We picked up a mooring ball at Shroud Cay provided by the Park Service. This proved to be more difficult than we anticipated as they were a little different from what we were used to. Once settled in we had a quick lunch and then took down the dinghy to do some exploring. The weather was a little “iffy” today. Basically warm, but breezy with a fair amount of cloud cover. Occasionally the sun would peak out making the waters and surrounding land breathtaking. Shroud Cay has several creeks that run from the Bank side to the Sound side that can only be explored by dinghy or watercraft such as kayaks. At low tide most of it is unnavigable. We dinghied to the beginning of the northernmost creek, but unfortunately couldn’t make it through as it was still 2 or 3 hours until high tide. We decided that adventure would have to wait for another day. We did explore the smaller inlets and reefs around the mooring area, walking on several of the beaches before returning to the boat. Just before sunset Gerry pumped up one of our inflatable kayaks and gave it a quick spin. We will probably use them for exploring as we head south.
