Our exciting ride today was compliments of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Their forecast was for winds at 5-10 knots with seas of around 1 ft. We should have known better than to trust them, as they’ve been wrong most of the time since we entered the Chesapeake. However, in our nice little anchorage in Solomons there was nary a breeze and so off we went. About an hour out it got downright nasty, but we forged ahead. Several times we took water over the flybridge, soaking both Gerry and the computer. Linda got out bungee cords and strapped down the chairs and table on the bridge and then hung on for dear life. We changed course a bit to get a smoother (or should I say less bumpy) ride. Finally we made it to the mouth of the Little Choptank River and things settled down considerably. By noon, we had dropped the hook in a beautiful sandy cove on Hudson Creek.
After lunch we took the dinghy down and explored Hudson Creek. Gerry tried some fishing and even did a little crabbing. He actually got one crab – but by pure luck – scooped it off a piling. We watched another of Michel and Carole’s Bahamas DVD’s, then went back to the boat where we had dinner and enjoyed a beautiful, peaceful evening. Another nice sunset with both Michel and Gerry blowing the conch shell back and forth across the creek.
